TX-5488A Electronic Keyboard is a basic Chinese sample-based kind-of
polyphonic toy keyboard. Features 37 keys starting from C-3, 8
instruments, 8 rhytms with 4 percussion sounds also available via pads,
a few demo songs, and recording feature. There is two voice polyphony
that gets reduced to only one voice if a rhytm is playing. Bought it in
2019 for $18.5 (new). The toy has pretty cheap make and bad sound
overall, although I've seen much worse.

Sound wise it is similar to two quite different keyboards I sampled
before. On other hand, it has the chiptune-like instruments with short
waveform periods and volume envelopes, like BF-630 did. On the other
hand, it also shares much similarity to the HS-3230A, both in the sound
set (exactly the same, but different samples and different order), as
well as in regards of difficulty of sampling. It has the same long
running hard to catch loops created with envelope(s), seemingly based
of two slightly detuned oscillators, the drum pitch variation between
pads and pre-programmed rhytms, also features the tricky Mandolin
instrument that can't be fully recreated within the SF2 format
capabilities.

Funny thing about this keyboard is that it shares the same package box
for a number of different keyboard models - TX-3168FM, TX-5488A,
TX-5498A, TX-3298FM, TX-9933, TLF-3701, TLF-05FM. Most of them share the
same body and buttons, and a couple has a little bit different button
layout. The actual toy body and silk screen print does not mention the
model number anywhere. All of the models are pictured on the box, and the
one that is actually inside has a sticker with a tick next to its picture.
It also repeats a brilliant text over the box: 'we beg you pardon, if any
difference exists between the products and the photos'.
